The Gospel is the "good news" that Jesus, the eternal Son of God, took on flesh, lived a perfect life and then died bearing the guilt of His people, being crushed under the wrath of God; thereby, satisfying the justice of God against sin and sinners. He rose again on the third day as a vidication that His sacrifice for sin was sufficient and ascended into heaven to the right hand of the Father, so that now having satisfied the justice of God, God will declare righteous all those who fully trust in the work of Christ on their behalf for salvation and a right standing before a Holy God.
The call of the Gospel is to repent and believe the Gospel. These are workings of the Holy Spirit in the heart of a person, whereby, through the preaching of the Gospel the Holy Spirit does such a work in your life that you are brought to wretched brokeness over your sin and a desperation for God to save you, such that you cease from your rebellion against God and even self-righteousness, and you fall totally (it has to be 100%, not 99.9% God, and 0.01% you) on the mercy of Christ alone. That is what it means to repent and have faith alone in Christ alone.
What are the Doctrines of Grace also known as TULIP?
J. I. Packer explains God's grace in salvation in his introductory essay to John Owen's The Death of Death in the Death of Christ. To understand how Southern Baptists have historically understood the doctrine of election see A Southern Baptist Looks at the Biblical Doctrine of Election by Ernest C. Reisinger.
